Job Summary:

The Financial Counselor conducts review of Charity Care applications for Hospital system, follows appropriate steps to approve or returns application for additional information.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides patient with approval letter, letter requesting more information, or alternative payment option.
  • Reviews all assigned reports, identifies accounts for Medicaid, Charity Care and self-pay accounts, updates accounts with appropriate insurance code, rebills account appropriately
  • Assists in the Charity Care audit process.
  • Provides estimates for patients, collects payments in Experian
  • Provides excellent customer service

Job Requirements:

  • HS Diploma
  • Similar hospital billing or accounting experience
  • Knowledge of Charity Care. Uncompensated Care, and Medicaid guidelines and regulations
  • Candidate must be PE certified, or possess the skills to be certified within 90 days
  • Knowledge of No fault, Workman's Compensation, PLIGA, Victims of Violent Crimes, and the appropriateness of each program pertaining to individual patients preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification preferred
  • Candidate must be detail-oriented
  • Computer experience required
