Job Description The New York City Department of health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), a recognized leader and innovator in public health and mental hygiene services seeks a dynamic, highly motivated and talented candidate to serve as a Call Agent with Information Support Services - Call Center Unit. Within the Office of External Affairs, the Bureau of Information Support Services is looking for 2 full time Public Health Assistants to serve as Call Agents for the Call Center Unit.


The Public Health Assistant Call Agent duties will include but are not limited to:

--Explains testing and clinical procedures to customers/patients.

--Answers routine questions and makes appropriate referrals; makes and receives related telephone calls for health related matters/topics.

--Comforts patients over the telephone and reports relevant observations and information to supervisors/managers.

--Call Agent can access electronic medical records for patients.

--Answer general Vital Records related questions and assisting customers with status and referrals on Birth Certificates, insurance.

--Disseminate public health information materials upon request of the caller/patient/customer.

--Receive calls and makes referrals regarding Dog Licensing-and public health related issues of dog registration and reportable cases of rabies.

--Handle calls from Provider Access Line (PAL) these calls received by physicians to inform the Agency Call Center of reportable illnesses and diseases.

--Maintain electronic log of calls and requests from patients/callers regarding public health materials/topics.

--Perform other required duties/tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qual Requirements 1. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this position. However, the ability to understand and carry out simple instructions is required.
2. Candidates must be able to understand and be understood in English.
Preferred Skills - Strong customer service orientation

-Courteous telephone manner

-Excellent oral and written communication skills

-Basic computer literacy

-Spanish Speaking
